Arrival GuideΒ

Expect the entire process from deplaning to exiting into the arrivals hall to take approximately 45 to 60 minutes.Β

  1. Immigration (Passport Control): After deplaning, you will proceed to immigration. As an Indian passport holder, have your visa/e-visa and accommodation details ready. The process is generally efficient.Β
  1. After Baggage Claim, proceed through the Customs green channel. This is typically just a walk-through.Β

Before you leave the terminal to take the cab, do the following:Β

  1. ATM: Withdraw Georgian Lari (GEL) for immediate cash needs.Β
  1. SIM Card: Purchase a local SIM card for data. Kiosks for Magti (recommended) or Cellfie (city coverage good but not in mountains) are in the arrivals hall and are usually open for late-night flights. This is also essential for using Bolt.Β

Transit to City Centre accommodationΒ

  • Public Bus (Route #337)Β Β

Availability: it operates 24/7. Not recommended for a late-night arrival. While cheap (~1 GEL), you would need to get a transport card or have exact change, and then navigate from a bus stop to your hotel in an unfamiliar city late at night. It is inconvenient and not worth the hassle after a long flight.Β

  • Ride hailing Apps (Bolt / Yandex Go) – RecommendedΒ

Availability: 24/7. This is the best method. It is convenient, safe, and offers a fixed, fair price, avoiding any language barrier or haggling.Β

Procedure: Connect to the free airport Wi-Fi. Open the Bolt or Yandex Go app (have it downloaded beforehand). Set your hotel as the destination. Meet your driver at the designated pickup area.Β

Est. Cost: 35-50 GEL (INR 1000) to the city center.Β

Official Airport Taxis – Avoid. Overcharging. If you need to take this then agree to the fare beforehand.Β

Β

Getting Around (Transportation options)Β

With an AWD car rental, you’ll have the flexibility to explore the country’s stunning landscapes and cozy culture at your own pace.Β

The other option is to take a taxi for Day 4, 5, 6 & 7. A private cab with driver (4 days cost will be about $400)Β

Detailed day by day itineraryΒ

Day 1 & 2: Arrival and First Taste of TbilisiΒ

(Thursday, Nov 13, 2025)Β

Day at a glanceΒ

  • Very early morning arrival and rest: land, get your Magti SIM and GEL currency from the ATM, and take a Bolt directly to your hotel, check in, and take a moment to settle and sleep.Β
  • Lunch (12:00 PM): Wake up and head out for your first Georgian meal. This will be a relaxed lunch in your Sololaki neighborhood, where you can properly enjoy the food without feeling exhausted.Β

Afternoon Highlight – Narikala Fortress: After lunch, walk to Rike Park and take the cable car up to Narikala Fortress. This is a fantastic first activity as it gives you a stunning panoramic view of the entire city you’re about to explore.Β

Discover the Old Town: From the fortress, take a leisurely walk downhill through the winding streets of the Old Town. Make your way to the Abanotubani (Sulphur Baths) district and see the picturesque Leghvtakhevi waterfall right in the city.Β

  • Evening: The city has a special charm on a cool November evening. The Sulphur Bath Experience is the perfect way to cap off your travel day. Book a private room for an hour at one of the historic bathhouses (e.g., Gulo’s Thermal Spa or Chreli-Abano). It is incredibly relaxing and will soothe any remaining travel fatigue.Β
  • Dinner: Enjoy a wonderful dinner in the Old Town or head back to Sololaki for a meal at a place recommended by your host. Find a local restaurant and get first taste of Khachapuri Adjaruli (the famous cheese bread with an egg) and some hot Khinkali (dumplings).Β

Good to Know:Β

  • Download an offline map of Tbilisi (Google Maps or Maps.me) to help you navigate from the airport.Β
  • Keep it simple on Day 1 & 2. The real exploring begins tomorrow.Β

Β

Day 3: Exploring the Soul of Tbilisi’s Old TownΒ

(Friday, Nov 14, 2025)Β

Day at a glanceΒ

  • Morning: After breakfast, take a taxi to the Holy Trinity Cathedral (Sameba), one of the largest Orthodox cathedrals in the world. Afterwards, head to the heart of the Old Town.Β
  • Afternoon: Choose your interest –Β

For History Buffs: Visit the National Museum of Georgia to see the stunning Archaeological Treasury exhibit.Β

For Shoppers/Art Lovers: Explore the famous Dry Bridge Market, a fascinating open-air flea market.Β

Can consider an Airbnb experience/walking tour by a local (to be shared)Β

  • Late Afternoon: Take a stroll down the grand Rustaveli Avenue, the city’s main artery, to see the Parliament Building and the Opera House.Β
  • Evening: Enjoy dinner in a different neighborhood, consider the trendy Marjanishvili area.Β Β

Good to Know:Β

  • Wear your most comfortable walking shoes today.Β
  • Booking a private room at the sulphur baths is highly recommended for a more comfortable experience.Β

Day 3: The Wine Roads of Kakheti (Sighnaghi)

(Saturday, Nov 15, 2025)

Day at a glance

  • Morning: Check out of your Tbilisi hotel. Pick up your rental car or your taxi. The process is usually straightforward. Begin your drive east to Kakheti, Georgia’s premier wine region. The drive takes about 2 hours.
  • Afternoon: Arrive in Sighnaghi, the “City of Love.” This beautifully restored town is perched on a hilltop with amazing views of the Alazani Valley. Visit a local winery for a tour and tasting. Since the Rtveli harvest is over, you’ll get a more personal experience. Ask about the ancient qvevri (clay vessel) winemaking method. Pheasant’s Tears Winery is a well-known option right in Sighnaghi.
  • Explore the town, walk its famous defensive walls which stretch for several kilometres, and enjoy the views.
  • Dinner: Enjoy a traditional Kakhetian dinner, known for its delicious barbecue (mtsvadi) and rich stews, paired with local wine.

Good to Know:

  • Having the AWD rental gives you the freedom to visit smaller, family-run wineries you might see signs for along the road.

Day 4: Monasteries and onward journey

(Sunday, Nov 16, 2025)

Day at a glance

  • Morning: After breakfast, visit the Bodbe Monastery (peaceful and important pilgrimage site, is the final resting place of St. Nino, who brought Christianity to Georgia)
  • Afternoon: begin the scenic drive north towards the mountains. You can take your time, stopping for photos or at a roadside stall to buy some Churchkhela (the candle-shaped candy made of nuts and grape juice).
  • Evening: Stay overnight near the Ananuri Fortress Complex. Having this night in Ananuri breaks up the long driving days and sets you up perfectly for your journey north tomorrow.

Day 5: Fortress and the epic Georgian Military Highway to Kazbegi

(Monday, Nov 17, 2025)

Day at a glance

  • Morning: Explore Ananuri Fortress in the beautiful morning light. Continue your journey up the Georgian Military Highway, stopping at the Gudauri Viewpoint (Friendship Monument) and the Jvari Pass. Arrive in Stepantsminda in the early afternoon.
  • All Day: Take your time driving the Georgian Military Highway. Key stops include:
  • Zhinvali Reservoir: A stunning turquoise lake.
  • Gudauri Viewpoint: The “Russia-Georgia Friendship Monument” offers vast, sweeping views of the mountains.
  • Jvari Pass: The highest point on the road, where you may see the first signs of serious snow.
  • Evening: Arrive in Stepantsminda (Kazbegi) and check into your hotel. If the weather is clear, you might get your first glimpse of the majestic Mount Kazbek.

Good to Know:

  • Crucial: Before you leave, check the road status on road.ge
  • November weather can be unpredictable, and the pass can close.
  • Dress warmly. The temperature will drop significantly as you gain altitude.

Day 6: Gergeti Trinity Church and return to TbilisiΒ

(Tuesday, Nov 18, 2025)Β

Day at a glanceΒ

  • Morning: Today’s main event is visiting the iconic Gergeti Trinity Church. The center of Stepantsminda town has a dedicated fleet of local drivers with 4×4 vehicles (you will see many Mitsubishi Delica vans) who specialize in taking visitors up to the church.Β

Hire a driver for the round trip. They will expertly navigate the rough and icy terrain to drive you to the top, wait for you for a set amount of time (usually 45-60 minutes, which is plenty), and then drive you safely back down to the town center.Β

With your 4×4, you can drive the winding track up to the church yourself but this route will be icy and slippery. The view of the 14th-century church with the snow-dusted peak of Mount Kazbek behind it is the signature image of Georgia. The moody November clouds often make the scene even more dramatic.Β

  • After returning, begin the drive back south. On your way, stop at Mtskheta, the ancient capital and spiritual heart of Georgia. Visit the magnificent Svetitskhoveli Cathedral and then drive up the hill to Jvari Monastery for the famous panoramic view of the two rivers converging. Arrive back in Tbilisi.Β
  • Evening: Enjoy a relaxed dinner.Β

Good to Know:Β

  • Even with a taxi/car, the final walk to the church can be icy. Make sure you have sturdy shoes.Β
  • Mtskheta is a UNESCO World Heritage site and a must-do. Stopping on your way back from Kazbegi is very time-efficient.Β

Β

Day 7 & 8: Ancient Mtskheta and a Final Georgian FeastΒ

(Wednesday, Nov 19-20, 2025)Β

Day at a glanceΒ

  • You have the entire day. Choose your final adventure: explore the Dry Bridge Market, visit a museum, or explore the trendy Marjanishvili neighborhood.Β
  • The Dry Bridge Market is a fascinating flea market where you can find everything from Soviet memorabilia to handmade crafts. Otherwise, pick up some sealed bottles of Saperavi wine to take home.Β
  • Dinner: Find a restaurant known for traditional music and enjoy a final round of all your favourite Georgian dishes. Enjoy a long, final farewell dinner before heading to the airport for your late-night flight.Β

Good to Know:Β

  • With a late flight, you can store your luggage at the hotel after checkout and enjoy a full, relaxed final day in the city.Β

Tbilisi neighbourhoods & Stay optionsΒ

Sololaki areaΒ

Fairy-tale architecture, cozy vibe, perfectly located to explore the rest of the city on foot. You’ll find a great mix of all three types of stays thereβ€”from charming guesthouses to incredible apartments with historic balconies.Β Β

Marjanishvili area would be second choice for a slightly different but equally wonderful experience.Β

Stay options to be worked out.Β Β

Q: Are you comfortable with Airbnbs or only Hotels? What level of service is expected, breakfast/restaurants etc.Β Β

Expected Weather in Georgia in NovemberΒ

The weather can be quite variable, but you should prepare for it to be consistently cool to cold.Β

  1. Tbilisi and Kakheti (Sighnaghi)

These lowland and eastern regions will have similar, classic late-autumn weather.Β

  • Expected Temperatures:Β
  • Daytime Highs: 8Β°C to 12Β°C (46Β°F to 54Β°F)Β
  • Nighttime Lows: 2Β°C to 5Β°C (36Β°F to 41Β°F)Β
  • Conditions: Expect a mix of crisp, sunny days and overcast, grey days. Rain is definitely possible, so having waterproof outer layers is important. The air will feel cool and fresh, perfect for walking around the city, but you will need a proper jacket.Β
  1. Kazbegi (Stepantsminda) and the High Mountains

As you drive up the Georgian Military Highway, the weather will change dramatically. At this altitude, November is the start of winter.Β

  • Expected Temperatures:Β
  • Daytime Highs: 0Β°C to 4Β°C (32Β°F to 39Β°F)Β
  • Nighttime Lows: -5Β°C to 0Β°C (23Β°F to 32Β°F)Β
  • Conditions: Be prepared for winter conditions. Snow is not just possible, it is very likely, especially on the ground in and around Stepantsminda and on the Jvari Pass. The weather can change quickly from sunny and clear to windy and snowy. The wind chill can make it feel even colder than the thermometer suggests.Β

Β

Essential Packing GuideΒ

The golden rule for this trip is layering. This will allow you to stay comfortable whether you’re walking in chilly Tbilisi or facing the freezing wind in the mountains.Β

Outerwear (Your Shield)Β

  • One Warm, Waterproof/Water-Resistant Jacket: This is the most important item. A good insulated jacket (like a down or synthetic puffer) that is also waterproof or at least water-resistant is ideal. This will protect you from both the cold and any rain or snow.Β

Mid-Layers (Your Insulation)Β

  • Fleece Jackets or Wool Sweaters (2-3): These are your main insulation layers. You can wear one on a cool day in Tbilisi or layer two on top of each other in the mountains.Β
  • Avoid Cotton Hoodies: They are bulky and offer poor insulation, especially if they get damp. Fleece and wool are far superior.Β

Base Layers (Your Foundation)Β

  • Thermal Underwear (2 sets): A set of long-sleeved thermal tops and bottoms (long johns) is recommended, especially for the days in Kazbegi. Merino wool is the best material as it stays warm even when you sweat.Β
  • Long-Sleeved T-shirts (3-4): Use these as your first layer on warmer days in the city or as a layer over your thermals.Β

Trousers / PantsΒ

  • Comfortable Jeans or Chinos (2 pairs): Perfect for city exploration in Tbilisi and Kakheti.Β
  • Warmer Trousers (1 pair): Consider a pair of fleece-lined or thicker trousers for the mountain days. Water-resistant hiking pants would also be an excellent choice.Β

Footwear (Crucial for Comfort & Safety)Β

  • Waterproof Boots with Good Grip (1 pair): This is essential. Your regular sneakers will not be warm or dry enough if it rains in Tbilisi or snows in Kazbegi. Your feet will get cold and wet, which can ruin a day. Look for comfortable, broken-in boots.Β
  • Wool Socks (4-5 pairs): Good quality wool socks will keep your feet warm and dry. Pack more pairs than you think you’ll need.Β

Accessories (Small Items)Β

  • Warm Hat (Beanie): You lose a lot of heat through your head. A warm beanie is a must.Β
  • Gloves: Essential for the mountains and likely needed in Tbilisi in the evenings.Β
  • Scarf or Buff: Great for protecting your neck and face from the cold wind.Β

Miscellaneous EssentialsΒ

  • Sunglasses: The sun can be very bright when reflecting off snow in the mountains.Β
  • Power Bank: To keep your phone charged during long drives and days out.Β
  • Travel Adapter: Georgia uses the Type C/F round two-pin plug.Β
  • Basic Medications: Painkillers, band-aids, and any personal medications.Β
  • Small Daypack: To carry water, snacks, and extra layers while you’re out exploring.Β

A Pro-Tip from a Delhi Perspective:Β

Think of the Tbilisi weather as being similar to a cold late-January day in Delhi, but with a higher chance of rain. The Kazbegi weather, however, is different. It is comparable to the winter cold you’d experience at Manali or Gulmarg when it is snowing.Β Β

What Not to Pack:Β

  • Sandals, flip-flops, or light canvas shoes.Β
  • Shorts, skirts, or light summer dresses.Β
  • Too many cotton items.Β

By packing smart and focusing on layers, you’ll be comfortable and ready to enjoy everything Georgia has to offer, no matter what the November weather brings.Β
